Do summertime walking in the mountains (both in Sweden and abroad) and the thought of doing adventures safer by buying a GPS.
The choice fell on the Garmin GPSMAP 64st which itself is awesome technology and performance!
The position themselves and find plenty of satellites when you are sitting indoors, battery life is cruel, it is a robust product that is structurally withstand both weather and falls from height, it has a stylish design, comfortable to hold, good display, proper buttons. ..etc! (The product itself is "all star")
But, and this is a big but with seriousness and danger of throwing away money !:
-Beställde Afterwards to a European road map by 2016-05 from Garmin's website and got the map delivered on SD memory with a map version from 2014. (But what the f ... n!)
-To Get the new map from the GPS to Base Camp to plan routes does not work.
-There Is no logic in how to use and navigate the Garmin software in the GPS.
-To Even via computer, connect your GPS to Garmin's help / maps applications (Basecamp) took an entire morning (using the forum), and even when it was clearly understands how it is supposed to use the software.
One must look for the most part in forums and there are many "walk-a rounds" to find :)
In summary, one can say that the product (hardware) are top-notch, but what does it matter when you have to be a rocket scientist to use it.
Clean j..vla shit, have thrown away 3500kr on a device that is not adapted for use.
A normally, brutally good gps. But yeah, what's wrong? We go directly to the benefits that the case up here is totally wrong and rather removes all the benefits and transforms them to irritation and anger.
Think that up here can probably become the best hand held the GPS like the Garmin done in a while. The outside has much in common with the 60CSx which according to me was, or might even be the most fun you get for the money for geocaching, hunting or for overseas missions.
+ Batteries and good battery time, without lighting
+ Battery cover is really good and works just fine. versus 60CSx unit can be dropped much more time before breaking down.
really nice with geocaching. it does feildnotes and saves a log of everything you did and found. fantastic features. However, there is as I said more to do before it can replace an iPhone / Android phone.
+ Bluetooth announcements. so you get your notices in the GPS on your phone. However, you can not send geocaches to your device from your phone.
+ Unit finds very fast GPS / GLONASS signals and is really good at keeping the signal. it is perfectly possible to log a flight or if you want, train, car or whatever it may be. cabin pressure in an aircraft may be monitored but ignored when you have good enough signal from the satellites. test driven ARN-LHR to ARN-GOT, ARN-AMS with good results. In the fashion of the instruments in the cockpit.
- Battery life, with lighting
- The software of the device, not the maps, is really really bad. called Garmin to make a bug report, but the Swedish garmin ignore this. emailed German garmin, got response directly. most of the problems have now been resolved since v3.70, however, is much left to do.
- Crackade or OSM variants of the maps do not work, so now it's my wheat literally just buy maps that can run. it's just bought verified maps right now.
- The "average" mark a point so the unit falls off the new coordinate. It may instead be remembered himself and enter the point you selected.
- No contact to put it on the charging / connection to the car's power source when you have it there. would be nice to snap it there and recharge when you are out in the woods.
** This is therefore the device with v3.70 software. endanför this software version, the unit is in my opinion totally useless. the software is free, quick and easy to install.
right now, I recommend barely a purchase. However, the Garmin units the best once they manage to fix the software properly. my guess is that just in time for winter 2015, this unit will be really good in software.
